Austria and Jordan sign an MOU in the field of environmental technology

The Austrian Minister of Economic Affairs (and Vice Chancellor) Reinhold Mitterlehner welcomed his Jordanian counterpart, Mr. Yarub Oudah – the Minister of Industry and Trade, to a meeting in Vienna to discuss the development of the bilateral economic relations and the current developments in the Middle East.

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the field of environmental technology was signed.

“Jordan is a stable partner in the Middle East and has a great potential for Austrian companies. Our goal is to intensify the good existing economic relations”, said Mr. Mitterlehner who sees in the signed MOU a good potential for new opportunities for Austrian companies. Mr. Oudah also highlighted the good and friendly relations between both countries. He also anticipated a great potential for technology transfer following the MOU.

The bilateral trade volume between Austria and Jordan was JOD 50.3 million in 2016, out of which, Austria has imported goods amounting to JOD 5 million from Jordan in 2016.  The main products imported from Jordan were clothes and textiles, jewelry of precious metal and calcium phosphates. The Austrian exports to Jordan amounted to JOD 45 million. The most important export products were pharmaceutical products, machines and mechanical apparatus as well as paper and cardboard.
