ABC and Swiss Chamber Joint Luncheon: May 9, 2012
The ABC co-hosted two major events in May demonstrating the strong ties between Austrian and Japanese businesses.
On May 9, the ABC invited Mr. Veit Sorger, President of the Federation of Austrian Industries, to speak on recent economical developments in Europe. Numerous members from the ABC and the Swiss Chamber enjoyed Mr Veit’s clear statements of commitment to the EU and the euro zone as an important positive factor in Austria’s economical development over the last twenty years.

Giving Back to Japan: May 16, 2012
May 16 saw the second edition of “Giving Back to Japan”, a multilateral event dedicated to bringing together mayors of affected Tohoku towns, NPOs, Chambers of Commerce and industry leaders to find common ground on rebuilding projects in Tohoku. The mayors of Ofunato, Yamada, Aizu Misato, Iwanuma and Onagawa spoke at the event organized by 18 chambers. More than 400 visitors listened rapturously to the visions of future outlined by the different mayors. The mayors showed once again how strong the motivation among Japanese Tohoku towns is to fight for their continued existence and the rebuilding of their towns despite tremendous hurdles. The event was sponsored by a number of companies. Visitors also enjoyed dinner catered by Second Harvest, an NPO usually catering food to Tokyo’s homeless and less fortunate inhabitants.
