Eurovision Song Contest to be Green Event

For the first time in its 60-year history, the Eurovision Song Contest will be organised as a Green Event.

Vienna will host the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in May 2015. For the first time ever, the Song Contest will be organised to recognised environmental standards and realised as a Green Event.

The goal is to keep the Song Contest’s C02 footprint to an absolute minimum by conserving resources. The event will be completely powered by green energy from the public grid and the ESC tickets are valid for free public transport in Vienna. The focus for catering is on local and organic foods from Austria. Another important factor is reducing waste – all drinks will be served in reusable cups and free tap water will be provided throughout the event. What’s more, the ESC will provide disabled access at every level in line with the motto "Building Bridges".
Hosting the Eurovision Song Contest as a Green Event sends a clear signal. A sustainability report will be produced after the event and will set new standards for future ECSs and major events.
