Formwork solutions out to set records

The Burj Khalifa, towering 828 metres, was built in downtown Dubai using Doka formwork.

Austrian company Doka provided automatic climbing formwork and girder formwork — the formwork solution for the entire core of the building. Never before in the history of formwork technology has automatic climbing formwork been used at such a great height and under such extreme conditions. The shape of the tower also required the formwork to be highly flexible.

The construction period for the tower was extremely tight, meaning that a seamless operation schedule was essential. The Doka climbing formwork for the core of the building with wing walls ran with clockwork precision, which meant it was possible to complete a regular floor of Burj Khalifa’s central core every 72 hours.
