Vienna is one of the world’s top cities for students

30. December 2015

Austria’s federal capital Vienna is one of the 75 most attractive cities with some of the best facilities for students worldwide.

Vienna has risen to 16th place in the current QS Best Student Cities ranking, with Paris topping the table for the fourth time, followed by Melbourne and Tokyo. Sydney, London, Singapore, Montreal, Hong Kong, Berlin and Seoul all also ranked in the top ten, with Munich at number 11, followed by Zurich at number 12.

The QS Best Student Cities ranking provides a detailed comparison of the different advantages offered by prospective university cities. The results are based on the following five categories: university ranking (academic standard), student mix (proportion of students to locals, number of international students), quality of life (security, pollution, corruption), assessment of graduates by local employers and affordability (course fees, living costs).

Only cities with a population greater than 250,000 and at least two universities featuring in the QS World University Rankings were included in the ranking; a total of 122 cities worldwide met the competition criteria and of these, 75 were selected for the new listing.

Vienna , whose two universities - University of Vienna and Vienna University of Technology - qualify the city for the QS Uni Ranking, made a good showing in 16th position. The city scored particularly well for quality of life (3rd place), affordability (7th place) and student mix (14th place) – confirming that Vienna is an extremely attractive place to study.
