19. November 2019

Austrian companies in the rail industry are achieving international success with their innovative expertise, top-level quality and the ability to provide bespoke solutions.

With climate protection issues a current concern, rail systems are increasingly becoming the first choice in means of transport, in particular for intercontinental goods traffic and for inner-city rail solutions. They are a key element in sustainable transport concepts, a trend which will become even stronger in the future.

There are only a few sectors that require greater reliability, precision, quality and sustainability than the rail industry; signal technology, electrification and modern train control technology systems that are “made in Austria” ensure that passengers will travel safely worldwide. Electromechanical drives and engines from Austria guarantee performance at the limit in more than 60 countries.

The rail transport industry can look back on a long tradition and its products cover the full range – from railway carriages, track systems, safety and control technology to suburban light railway systems as well as high-speed trains. The portfolio includes the supplier industry as well as new fields where investments are being made in the technology of the future. Autonomous driving or the digitalisation of control systems are topics, Austria has its finger on the pulse of time here too.

The Austrian railway sector employs more than 9,000 people and recently generated a turnover of EUR 3.1 billion. With an export ratio of more than 70%, Austria’s rail industry is is particularly strong and innovative in international comparison.
