The Viennese have always known it. Now it’s been confirmed by international consulting firm Mercer: Vienna takes first place worldwide when it comes to quality of living.

Austria’s capital city Vienna has come top for the first time in a comparison of world cities. This is the conclusion reached by the latest survey from international consulting firm Mercer, which compares the quality of living in 215 different cities. Last year Vienna ranked second behind Zurich, this year it has managed to overtake the Swiss metropolis. Third place goes to another Swiss city - Geneva. The following top ten cities are Vancouver, Auckland, Düsseldorf, Munich, Frankfurt, Bern and Sydney. The city with the lowest quality of living is once again Baghdad.

When comparing the cities, Mercer takes 39 different criteria into account including political, social, economic and environmental aspects as well as personal safety, health, education, transportation, and other public services.
