200 years of history, 14,800 staff, 260 production sites in 26 countries, world market leader in brick production – that is Wienerberger.

Wienerberger AG is one of Austria’s leading companies. And now it has become more than “just” an Austrian operation: Wienerberger has become an international Group, headquartered in Austria and with a history stretching back almost two centuries.

Today’s largest brick producer in the world was founded in 1819 in Vienna, the stock market flotation followed in 1969. The international breakthrough began with the fall of the Iron Curtain. Immediately after Eastern Europe opened up at the start of the nineties, Wienerberger expanded into these countries. Therefore Wienerberger grew from a local Austrian brick producer into the world number one for bricks in just a few years. The number of production sites in this period rose from eleven to around 260 factories in 26 countries.

When it comes to backing bricks, Wienerberger is number one worldwide; for facing bricks it is market leader in Europe and number two in the USA, while for clay roofing tiles it is number two in Europe. Wienerberger employs 14,800 staff worldwide and last year generated revenues of EUR 2.3 billion.
