It all began 36 years ago on Mount McKinley; today it promotes an adventurous and active lifestyle worldwide. The Styrian producer of functional outdoor gear and garments has now become market leader in this segment in South America and China.

The success story of the family-run Styrian company Northland Professional began in 1973 – on one of the coldest mountains, Mt. McKinley, at 6,193 metres above sea level. It was here that Gerwalt Pichler founded his company, which is now a complete provider in the outdoor and textile sectors and is represented in 36 countries across the globe. Northland is among the best-selling outdoor brands in South America and China. The company currently has 400 shops in China, set to rise to 1,000 by 2012.

The company recently established its new corporate headquarters in Graz. Across 10,000 square metres there is now a Northland theme park with a climbing garden, Skywalk, swimming lake and climbing hall, which will all also be used for product testing. The company’s innovations include breathable shirts which have bamboo or coffee woven into them to reduce unpleasant odours. Northland also designed the lightest jacket in the world, weighing just 59 grams, which is the size of a muesli bar when rolled up.
