Successful Austrian Trade Mission to Ghana and Sierra Leone

Exploring future markets in Accra and Freetown

With dozens of business meetings held by a delegation of representatives of Austrian companies from various industries, the trade mission to Ghana and Sierra Leone organised by Advantage Austria Lagos from 9 – 13 March was a resounding success. The first leg of the mission took the participants to Accra. The highlight of the visit for the participants was the opportunity to hold b2b meetings and interact with major players and prospective clients / customers in their respective industries.

In what has already become a tradition, the Commercial Counsellor at the Austrian Embassy in Lagos, Mr. Guido Stock, welcomed business partners and friends at an evening of cordial business networking on the rooftop of the Suncity Hotel Apartment in Accra.

Thereafter, the delegation headed to Freetown to explore future markets and opportunities. Executives of many Sierra Leonean government agencies and parastatals as well as companies from the private sector seized the opportunity to meet with members of the Austrian delegation in order to establish new contacts and exchange ideas.

To celebrate the first ever Austrian trade mission to Sierra Leone with local partners, the Commercial Counsellor, Mr. Guido Stock, also hosted a business networking reception in Freetown. The networking event at the at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel was attended by many important partners and valued friends of Advantage Austria, amongst them the Hon. Minister of Trade and Industry of Sierra Leone, Mr. Edward Sandy, high ranking representatives from the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Energy of Sierra Leone, the Free Town City Council, other public entities, the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture as well as executives of many leading Sierra Leonean companies.

In memory of the first ever Austrian trade mission to Sierra Leone and in recognition of Advantage Austria’s contribution to the promotion of economic relations between Sierra Leone and Austria, the Austrian delegation received an beautifully hand carved wooden plaque from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, represented by Minister Edward Sandy, and the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, represented by its President, Mr. Christopher Forster, as well as the Chamber’s Council Member and AGOA Coordinator, Mrs. Ayodele Wak-Williams.
