Austria is kicking off its tourism drive with a welcome that is as warm as it is safe

27. May 2020

The Austrian government is investing an additional EUR 40 million in tourism marketing, and Coronavirus testing across the board for everyone working in the industry should help international guests feel welcome.

The summer season is just around the corner and companies in the tourism industry are raring to go. After two months in which tourism in Austria has been hamstrung by the pandemic, the sector is about to make its comeback. With hotels reopening their doors from 29 May and border crossing restrictions being gradually lifted, efforts to promote holidaying in Austria are being redoubled. Austria is showing itself to the world as a safe destination.

Thanks to support from the Austrian Economic Chamber, the budget for the Austrian National Tourist Office marketing organisation has been boosted by EUR40 million, and the funds are principally earmarked for a communications campaign. Promising that there’s a great summer waiting, the campaign will initially target holidaymakers from markets closer to Austria, led by wherever border crossings are being reopened.

The aim is for tourists to be able to take a holiday in Austria as safely as they could before the Coronavirus crisis. That’ why measures to prevent infection are to be complemented by comprehensive, regular testing for anyone working in the tourism industry. Companies included in the measure are to be identified accordingly.

Hospitality and safety are going to be especially important during this summer season, both for visitors and for hosts.
