AUSTRIAN WINE IS GETTING MORE AND MORE POPULAR IN NORWAY

4. August 2020

Austrian wines enjoy an ever better reputation in Norway and frequently receive good ratings in the local media. Especially Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are favorites among Norwegian consumers.

Despite the temporary closure of bars and restaurants due to Covid-19, Austrian winemakers like Weingut Frank experience continued success in the Nordics. Their Weinviertel DAC und Zweigelt Kalk & Loess is available in select restaurants in Norway, while Weinviertel DAC and their Riesling are popular choices in the neighboring markets of Sweden and Finland. Even in Iceland, Greenland and on the Faroe Islands, you might encounter one of their delicious wines.

A close cooperation with their Scandinavian trade partner, and a continued commitment to export as a cornerstone of their company mindset, is part of the reason behind Weingut Frank’s success story. Another was identifying the thriving Norwegian wine market early on; proven again, when the local wine monopoly reported a 32% increase of sales in 2020.
