29. May 2018

New Research Center Silicon Austria will open in 2019

According to recent statistics Austria is currently ranked second in an EU-Ranking regarding expenditures in the field of Research and Development. This means Austria is currently ahead of Germany, Denmark and Finland and just slightly behind Sweden. In 2017 the research quota in Austria amounted to 3.19% of the GDP which constitutes around 12.3 Billion Euros. Around three quarters of the expenditures were financed by domestic companies and the public sector. Compared to the previous year the expenses for R&D increased by 5.6% and are prone to grow further in the future. The Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology, stated that the long-term goal is to achieve a research quota of 3.76%. In order to reach that goal, the public sector chose to increase their R&D budget and concentrate on the field of Microelectronics. One of the projects they are supporting is the new Research Center Silicon Austria which will open in 2019.
