Oslo’s underground celebrates its 100th train

On Wednesday, 24th of April, Oslo celebrated the handover of the 100th train constructed by Siemens Austria. Regarding the Oslo metro system Siemens can look back on a ten-year success-story. Sandra Gott-Karlbauer, CEO of the Business Unit Urban Transport, proudly announced that Oslo is the city with the biggest fleet of Siemens-trains in Europe.

Siemens designed the underground trains for the harsh weather conditions during Norwegian winters. Therefore, the trains can be used at temperatures of -25 degrees. Next year another 15 trains MX300 will be delivered to the city of Oslo. The trains have been designed by Porsche Design, located in Zell am See, Austria. Their maximum speed is 80 km/h and 290.000 passengers use the metro-trains daily. Furthermore, the light aluminum car-bodies are constructed to reduce the energy consumption by 25%.
