The opening ceremony on 8. August in Beijing represents the starting point for the Olympic athletes coming from all over the world to give prove of their performance. Contrary the companies involved in the forerun of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, have already held their tournament. Some Austrian companies came out ahead in this competition.

 One of them is the Lower-Austrian entrepreneur Andreas Riha, CEO of Brains and Pictures . Its computerised remote controlled wirecam system provides the TV-spectators with high-class footage of the opening ceremony and the disciplines cycling and whitewater kayaking. The total value of the service is worth EUR 1.5 m.

The German logistics company DB Schenker is executing various transport service in the context of the Olympic Games and acts as the official freight forwarding and custom clearing supplier. This gives also a boost to the business of the Vienna office that acts as a hub for south-eastern European region for DB Schenker. Individual consignments summing up to 60 tons were shipped to Beijing prior to the opening. Amongst others the Tornado boats of the Austrian athletes and titleholders from Sydney and Athens have been shipped by DB Schenker.

Also companies from the western part of Austria provide its sophisticated solutions to China . The Salzburg situated Skidata AG was awarded the contract to supply the access management system for Gong-Ti football stadium. The Tyrolean Datacon supplied a full integrated high-performance production line to China . Now the tickets for several sport location bear manufactured chips in them.

A further Austrian profiteer is the Corinthian company Heradesign. The subsidiary of the Knauf-Group installed decorative ceiling panels to the basketball and shooting facilities.

These are a few examples of Austrian excellence represented at the Olympic Summer Games 2008 in Beijing . Nonetheless it is not a comprehensive enumeration of all suppliers and one will find more Austrian products in the sport facilities, the infrastructure, the energy supply and the transport equipment.
