Vienna ranked as world’s most livable city

Austria’s capital retains top spot for 9th year in a row

For the ninth consecutive year, Vienna once again remains the city offering the best quality of life in the world. The consulting firm Mercer conducted the annual “Quality of Living” survey for the 20th time, including 231 cities worldwide on factors such as political stability, health care, education, crime, recreation and transport. The purpose of the survey is to help companies and organizations to determine compensation and hardship allowances for their international staff.

Vienna, with a population of 1,8 million, offers its residents high levels of security, well-structured public transport as well as a variety of cultural and recreational facilities. Austria’s capital city finishes above Zurich (Switzerland) in second, followed by Auckland (New Zealand) and Munich (Germany) in joint third.
