Salzburger Cheese in Eastern Europe

The Salzburg Käsehof Association enjoys success far beyond national borders with its organic cheese products. 65% of production is currently exported.

The cheese producer Käsehof from Seekirchen am Wallersee (Salzburg) does not only prioritise organic products on the domestic market, but has also recognised this market niche in Eastern Europe and will be offering its top quality products in Romania from autumn 2008. However this is not a completely new step for the Käsehof Association, joint-owned by around 600 Salzburg farmers. As with other products - including Heumilch-Emmentaler and Heumilch-Bergkäse - Käsehof has already been present in Eastern Europe for around 3 years. 

With 115 staff, Käsehof generated 65% of revenues (EUR 55 m) from exports. The main export market is Germany, ahead of Belgium and Eastern Europe.
