On 14 August 2008, the University of the Philippines inaugurated its Vehicle Research and Testing Laboratory (VRTL) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Colleg of Engineering, UP Diliman, Quezon City.  The VRTL is the first of its kind in the country.  The facility, created to conduct research on and test alternative fuels and fuel saving and emission control products, is fully supplied using AVL systems.  The AVL's Chasis Dynamometer is one of the first few equipment supplied to the facility.  AVL's engineers and technical staffs attended the event and provided training and technical know-how to the UP engineers.
