Visit of Minister Bartenstein to the Philippines

Josef Mayer, Vice Minister for Foreign Economic Policy and European Integration and Dr. Richard Schenz, Vice President of Federal Economic Chamber.   Pres. Arroyo is joined by NEDA DG Augusto Santos, Secretary Leandro Mendoza of DOTC, and Usec Conejos of DFA.  Rightmost is Amb. Linglingay Lacanlale, Ambassador of the Philippines to Austria.

 On 03-05 March 2008, Dr. Martin Bartenstein, Minister of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economy and Labour, along with Mag. Josef Mayer, Vice Minister for Economy and Labour, and Dr. Richard Schenz , Vice President of the Federal Economic Chamber and a business delegation composed of 13 big Austrian companies visited the Philippines for series of meetings with the Philippine government and the business representatives from the private sector.  The visit aims to strengthen growth of economic cooperation betwen the Philippines and Austria. 

The Austrian delegation met with high-ranking government officials led by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.  Separte meetings were convened with various Cabinet secretaries such as DG Augusto Santos of NEDA, Sec. Hermogenes Ebdane Jr of DOTC, Sec. Leandro Mendoza of DPWH, Sec. Francisco Duque of DOH, Sec. Lito Atienza of DENR, and Usec. Austere Panadero of DILG.  In the meetings, both governments reiterated its commitment to further develop bilateral cooperation in the field of power  generation, bridge infrastructure, communications, environmental management, medical supplies/equipment, among others. 

The Delegation also met with the business leaders headed by Mr. Washington Sycip, Austria's Honorary Consul.
