Tre Länder - Ett Språk

Three countries – one language. Europe’s most widely spoken first language, German, is the focal theme of this year’s Göteborg Book Fair, taking place from 22 to 25 September 2011. Austria, Germany and Switzerland will have a joint stand at the Book Fair.

From 22 to 25 September 2011, the Göteborg Book Fair pays tribute to the young, innovative and vital German-speaking literature which becomes more and more popular with Scandinavian readers. Come in and visit the joint booth of Austria, Germany and Switzerland to find out more!

Throughout history, Austria has always had its share of big names in German literature. Franz Kafka, Stefan Zweig, Robert Musil and Thomas Bernhard are only a few of them. Today, contemporary Austrian authors such as Nobel Prize laureate Elfriede Jelinek, Friederike Mayröcker or Daniel Kehlmann enjoy growing popularity in Sweden; others are just now being translated into Swedish.

To foster the success of Austrian literature in Sweden and its neighboring countries, 20 Austrian publishers and booksellers will participate in the joint stand at the Göteborg Book Fair and display what Austria’s literary world has to offer. In addition, nine Austrian authors will give readings of their works as well as participate in seminars, stand events and other programmes related to the German language theme.
