Bombardier develops the "seeing" streetcar

9. August 2018

Bombardier, the Canadian industrial group, operates its global competence center for streetcars in Vienna, and is now developing an innovation which is already being tested.

As we learned from ABA – Invest in Austria , it involves an IT system which enables dangers to be quickly identified and thus makes the streetcar into a “seeing” form of transportation. Accordingly, dangers and obstacles can be more quickly recognized by the new system than by a person. This development is expected to be ready for road traffic in about five years. The Bombardier competence center in Austria  does pioneering work in the fields of urban mobility, car-free cities and self-driving trains. Moreover, Bombardier is a partner of Open.Rail.Lab, the first test track for self-driving trains in Europe, which is based in the Austrian federal province of Burgenland. In the years to come, the rail technology of the future is to be tested there “in the wild”.
