Exhibition “Josef Frank - Against Design” on display in Stockholm’s Centre for Architecture and Design (ArkDes)

The most comprehensive collection of the pioneering works of the Austrian architect and designer by  MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts

The exhibition “Josef Frank - Against Design” shows the impressive diversity of Frank’s work – covering all aspects of his groundbreaking approach to architecture trough to colorful textile patterns and furniture.  Best known and most popular for his long term co-operation with interior specialist  Svenskt Tenn, Josef Frank´s works  shine with several pieces of furniture from the first set of interior he created in Vienna in 1910.  Furthermore objects from the Viennese furniture company “Haus & Garten” are to admired. This company was founded by Josef Frank in 1925 and became the most influential interior business of its time.

Known worldwide for his influence on Swedish design and modernism, the Austrian-born architect, grew up in a Jewish family and studied in Vienna. Threatened by growing anti-Semitism in Austria during the 1930s, he moved to his wife’s native Sweden.

The exhibition can be seen in Stockholm from March 10, 2017 until August 27, 2017
