five questions to Eduard Gaudy

15. September 2015

For forty years Austrian goldsmith Eduard Gaudy and his team have provided the Swedish audience with dreams and beautiful jewelry.

We had a chance to ask Mr. Gaudy, who is purveyor to the Swedish Court, a few questions about his homeland Austria. We would like to thank Mr. Gaudy for speaking with us and congratulate on the 40th anniversary of his workshop.

What’s not to miss when in Austria?
To me the song and often quoted expression “Wein, Weib und Gesang” embodies an important part of Austria. Over the years Austria has developed into a fantastic wine region.
In Vienna and Salzburg there are plenty of opportunities to listen to world-class music. So my advice would be: – enjoy the wine and the music and don't miss out on the opportunity to take a biketrip along the Danube River.

What is your absolute favorite place in Austria?
I’m a devoted climber and hiker so I prefer places where you can do some mountaineering.
But if I have to name one favorite place in Austria it would have to be the Südsteierisches Weinland, also known as the Tuscany of Austria. When the weather is good, it’s magical.

What should you eat and drink when you are in Austria?
When in Austria you should try a “Bretteljause” together with a good wine.
When it comes to wine, I am particularly fond of the delicious wines from the Winkler Hermaden Vineyard in the Steiermark.

Do you have a favorite memory from Austria you would like to share with us?
I sometimes do guided tours in Austria and the last time I was there it was with a Swedish group with a big interest in wine. We had a wonderful time in the beautiful wine district of Wachau.

What do you recommend bringing back to Sweden from Austria?
I have to say food and wine. I never leave Austria without having been to the
Kaiser Josef Market in Graz. There you can find all sorts of food and beverages and I always try to pack my bag to the fullest with Austrian delicacies before returning to Sweden. And once I brought Lederhosen to my grandchildren. It turned out they were highly appreciated!
