Keeping everyone safe and connected at Changi Airport

Frequentis has supplied a state-of-the-art voice communication and recording element for Changi’s new air traffic control system.

Frequentis is one of the world’s leaders in control centre solutions. The Singapore company, opened in 2002, was awarded a major contract by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) in 2007 for the voice communication and recording part of a new air traffic control system at Changi Airport.

The new system, known as LORADS III (Long Range Radar and Display System), is state-of-the-art, enabling air traffic controllers to handle more air traffic safely, well into the future.

The most sophisticated communication solution supplied is a future-proof, ultra high available, mission critical Frequentis VCS 3020X voice switch with 160 positions and over 1000 telephone and radio interfaces. The system uses proven technology combined with state-of-the-art IP networking. It is distributed across all sites and interconnected by fibre optic technology. A distributed DIVOS digital voice recording system, with more than 1000 duplicated channels and a long term data storage centre, has also been provided.

The new system serves the new area control centre, the approach, the Changi Airport control tower, the apron control and the fire stations, as well as a simulator system in the training academy. It is helping Changi, and Singapore, stay ahead of the game.
