A seven-star experience in the air

A new state-of-the-art cableway to Mount Faber’s famous Jewel Box has created a sensation!

The Doppelmayr/Garaventa Group is the world leader in ropeway engineering. Their products include rope-propelled systems for public transport, material transport systems and avalanche blasting lifts.

In 1974, Singapore’s first cableway system, and the first in the world to span a harbour, was launched. It linked Mount Faber and the amusement island, Sentosa. In 2005, the humble cable car station underwent a massive redevelopment and was transformed into a captivating tourist destination, The Jewel Box.

The name was inspired by the building’s architecture – a musical jewel box that can be seen from afar. Changing coloured lights wash the exterior façade, and the glittering cable cars that traverse in and out of it at night attract millions of tourists and locals.

At the end of October 2010, a new link to the ‘Jewel Box’ was built. After 35 years, the cableway between the mainland and Sentosa had aged. It has now been replaced by a detachable Doppelmayr gondola lift with stunningly equipped cabins for up to eight passengers. The Jewel Cable Car Ride, with its special seven-star VIP cabins including leather interior, minibar, sound system and a glass floor, transports up to 1.7 million passengers every year in utmost safety and comfort. A special highlight: the cabins glisten with a thousand Swarovski crystals.
