Agricultural exports from Austria rose again in 2016

7. February 2017

The demand for agricultural products from Austria continues to rise, with goods worth over 10 billion EUR being exported in 2016. Austria’s most important trading partners are Germany and Italy.

Extrapolations from AMA-Marketing show that Austrian agricultural exports rose by 3.2% to EUR 10.4 bn in 2016. Austrian agricultural exports have risen almost six-fold since Austria joined the European Union.

Germany is Austria’s most important trading partner, accounting for about a third of all Austrian food and agricultural exports (3.6 billion EUR), followed by Italy with 1.2 billion EUR. Although agricultural exports to Slovenia and Switzerland declined, there was growth in exports to the United Kingdom (+9.4%), France (+8.3%), Hungary (+6.4%), the Netherlands (+5.1%) and to the Czech Republic (+1%).

Exports to the USA, which was the third most important export country in Austria with an export value of EUR 770 million and an increase of 23%, recorded particularly good growth rates.

The most important product groups in the export sector include meat and meat preparations, milk and milk products, fruit and vegetables, and drinks.
