February 16, 2011

Austrian company wins distinguished prize for the third year in a row

Gardening power tool manufacturer VIKING from Langkampfen, Austria recently won the internationally renowned “Good Design Award” with its HB 585 tiller, introduced onto the market in the autumn of 2010. This longest-standing prize for design worldwide is awarded annually by the Chicago Athenaeum, which comprises the Museum for Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.

In its 60th year, the coveted award received a record number of entries from almost 50 countries, and 70 eminent design experts selected the winners. Looking at the decisive factors for winning the “Good Design Award”, namely innovation, form, materials, design, concept, function, utility value and aesthetic impression of the products, the VIKING tilling machine totally convinced the panel of judges. The "Good Design Award" was presented to a VIKING product for the third year in a row.

VIKING also received another important prize together with its packaging partner Duropack for its tiller product group - the “Austrian State Prize for Exemplary Packaging.” The joint organizers of this competition are the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management. The aim of the State Prize is to respond to the growing significance of holistic solutions for sustainability with regard to the packaging sector.
