Austrian Trade Commission New York sets the stage for creative Austria

On November 4th the Austrian Trade Commission in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum set the stage for Austrian creative industries highlighting New York City based Austrian companies such as Glass & Co, Lomography, Stillfried Wien, and Thomas Schauer Studio for Photography.

One hundred New York creatives followed the invitation which also highlighted delicious Austrian food, prepared by Michelin Star Chef Kurt Gutenbrunner , paired with artisanal Austrian wines and beer (Winery Netzl, Schlumberger, Steininger, Tegernseerhof and Hirter Bier.)

The cultural highlight of the evening was the U.S. premiere of the English version of the stage hit “BUTTERBROT/CHICKENSHIT” by Gabriel Barylli, one of the most successful plays in the German speaking world, starring Alfons Haider, well-known Austrian entertainer, actor, singer, TV host and cabaret artist, as well as Howard Nightingall (London) and Dave Moskin (NYC).

The evening concluded with an after-party featuring DJ Rave Rabbit from Austria. Alfons Haider, the star of the night, also announced the winner of the evening’s raffle. The prize was a precious ticket to the Bobbi Bear charity auction at Sotheby’s New York on December 8th. Operation Bobbi Bear is a South African Non-Profit Organization that works on behalf of sexually abused children and helps minimizing the risks of an HIV-infection at the point of rescue.
Gery Keszler, CEO of Life Ball – the biggest annual AIDS Charity event – has asked fashion designers and international personalities to create unique Build-A-Bear® bears to be auctioned for the benefit of Operation Bobbie Bear on December 8th in New York City. Austrian's president Heinz Fischer's Bobbie Bear was showcased at the Austrian Cultural Forum during the event. Other Personalities like President Bill Clinton, Sir Elton John, Sean Penn, Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone, Heidi Klum, Janet Jackson, Adrien Brody, Vivienne Westwood, Eva Longoria, Jean Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli and many more have designed their own Bobbi Bears.
