First International Polymers Congress 2008 held in Wels, Austria

Innovative presentations with a hands-on approach given by leading experts from various areas of the plastics industry and the sciences

On October 29 and 30, 2008 the Austrian Plastics Cluster together with the state of Upper Austria hosted the 1st International Polymers Congress with more than 200 attendees in Wels , Austria .

The opening day focused on the topics “s trategy, management and the future” with presentations by representatives from Erema, Borouge and HTI. The keynote speech during an evening reception entitled “Organic raw materials” was given by Karl Rametsteiner of KE Kelit Kunststoffwerk GmbH.

The plenary session on the second day dealt with the future and technical development in plastics, innovations in the areas of raw materials, products and technologies as well as different aspects of geographical and end-use markets. Speakers included representatives from Engel, Trodat, Sunpor, Borealis, and Universities of Leoben and Graz . The 1st International Polymers Congress closed with presentations on human resource issues given by representatives from Greiner Extrusion and Lenzing Plastics.

As one of the most successful and economically powerful branches in the region, plastics make an important contribution to Upper Austria as a business location. Moreover, the Austrian plastics industry influences international standards, is a trendsetter and a pioneer with regard to innovative ideas and opportunities. Sales in the plastics sector in Austria amount to EUR 13 billion with Upper Austrian companies contributing almost 50% or EUR 6.7 billion. Some 220 Upper Austrian plastics enterprises employ a workforce of around 34,000. Regional annual sales growth of 8% in the past two years emphasizes the attractiveness of Upper Austria as a business location for plastics companies.
