Austrian Reds Taking West Coast by Storm

High-Time for Austrian Wine from Los Angeles to San Francisco  

There are exciting times ahead for friends of Austrian wines in the US. Renown Financial Times Wine Critic Jancis Robinson is not alone when she calls Austria the country of "truly distinctive dark-skinned grape varieties" and recommends a long list of delicious Zweigelts and Blaufränkische in her March 11 article 'A New Austrian Empire?' .

The San Francisco Chronicle recently devoted a whole article to Austrian reds as well, recommending a number of Zweigelts, Blaufränkische and St. Laurents. What the SFC found particularly worth mentioning was the willingness of Austrian vintners "to make a basic table wine, which keeps quality high."

And as if that was not enough, the Austrian Trade Commission in cooperation with Austrian Wine Marketing will host two AUSTRIA UNCORKED events in Los Angeles and New York in May, where hundreds of Austrian wines will be available, accompanied by delicious specialties prepared by selected Austrian chefs.
