Austrian chef receives James Beard Award for Lifetime Achievement

Since 1990 the James Beard Foundation, a New York – based non-profit organization, honors food and beverage professionals all over North America – including chefs, restaurateurs, food journalists, cookbook authors, and restaurant designers. Often referred to as the “Oscars of the Food World”, the awards are celebrated each spring to acknowledge outstanding achievements in the culinary industry and comprise a weekend of events in NYC.

One of this year’s awardees is probably THE most famous Austrian chef. Wolfgang Puck, who has been living in the US since 1973, received this year’s James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award. His outstanding culinary creations and restaurants have become an indispensable contribution not only to e.g. the annual Academy Awards Governors Ball but also to the American culinary culture. Puck’s success as a chef is complemented by his entrepreneurial activities. The Wolfgang Puck Companies include 20 dining restaurants, catering services and kitchen and food merchandise as well as cookbooks. In his role as a co-founder of the Puck-Lazaroff Foundation he supports the Wine & Food Festival and raises money for Meals on Wheels.
