Austria goes monumental green at the largest conference dedicated to sustainable building

December 1, 2015

7 Austrian companies take the stage at this year’s GREENBUILD 2015 in Washington, DC

It’s the home of the red, white and blue, but this year Washington DC has officially gone green: Under the motto “Monumental Green,” GREENBUILD 2015 showcased the leading products, technologies and companies in efficiency and sustainability in the greenbuilding industry.

Staying ahead of the learning curve is absolutely essential to growing your business. Among the 600 exhibitors and more than 20,000 visitors from all over the world, 7 Austrian companies took this saying to heart and exhibited at the Austrian pavilion which was organized by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Chicago and our colleagues in Vienna.

Exhibiting at the GREENBUILD 2015, which was held from November 18 – 20, was a must for Austrian companies in order to showcase not only their know-how and products, but also their sustainable achievements in this sector. The following Austrian companies were represented at this year’s GREENBUILD trade show in Washington DC:

ARGE Starkholz Salzburg – A consortium of ten independent sawmills in the Salzburg region featuring specialty products from high-quality spruce and larch sustainably sourced from PEFC certified forests.

Biotop – swimming pools with no chemicals

FunderMax – surface design of exterior and interior areas of buildings

Silber Fensterbau – energy-efficient windows and doors

Variotherm – ecological, economical heating and cooling systems

Exhbiting at their individual booth:
KLH Massivholz – CLT (cross laminated timber) specialist with wall, ceiling and roof elements

The overall reaction of the Austrian and international exhibitors was positive. Most discussions revolved around the internationalization of LEED and the future of the greenbuilding sector.

Apart from all the exhibitors and their products and services, educational sessions with exciting speakers as well as special events and seminars, workshops and demonstrations were held at GREENBUILD 2015.

Among the main topics at this year’s conference were:

  • Mass urbanization
  • Smart city planning
  • Growing population
  • Supply chain optimization
  • Successful neighborhood-driven programs
  • Meaningful investment strategies

Status quo of the sustainable US construction industry:

The US market for sustainable building is still growing. Even now, the majority of new construction is built according to ecological standards and this trend is gaining acceptance. The demand for energy-efficient and ecological construction material is also increasing.

By introducing modern, industrial building technologies to the US market, Austria is succeeding in integrating many innovations into a single, game-changing solution.

Los Angeles will be the host for next year’s GREENBUILD International Conference and Expo which will be held from October 5 to 7, 2016.
