Austria hosts two SAE congresses this year

The SAE World Congress , an annual gathering of thousands of automotive engineers, is reinventing itself, like the automotive industry. After a quite devastating 2009, in which hundreds of auto engineers lost their jobs at OEMs and suppliers, 2010 is showing some signs of hope, but the Congress, like the industry, is slimming down. This year, SAE tightened the criteria for exhibitors in its "Innovation Only" display, which had more than 80 companies.
The Austrian company AVL List GmbH , who sponsored this year again the “AVL Technology Leadership Center”, was present with a large display at the congress and organized a series of seminars focusing on power train solutions to cope with the new fuel economy and greenhouse gas legislation. AVL is the world's largest privately owned company for development, simulation and testing technology of powertrains (hybrid, combustion engines, transmission, electric drive, batteries and software) for passenger cars, trucks and large engines. AVL’s North American Headquarters are located in the Detroit suburb of Plymouth, Michigan. Representatives from the Virtual Vehicle Competence Center ( ViF) introduced a cross domain co-simulation platform for the efficient analysis of Mechatronic System at the forum. Further speakers from Austria included representatives from the Graz University of Technology.
Magna International, the giant Austrian-Canadian parts supplier, highlighted their recently launched new global unit, E-Car Systems, at SAE. As one might deduce from its name, the new unit offers electric technology integration services to automakers, helping them develop hybrid-electric (HEVs) and all-electric vehicles (EVs).

Austria will host two SAE conferences in 2010. The “European Automotive Noise Conference ” which will be held in Graz from June 9 to 11, 2010. The conference is focusing on highly up-to-date topics for car manufacturers, suppliers and customers currently facing the tense economic situation. The “ Small Engine Technology Conference ” will be held from Sep 28 to 30, 2010 in Linz. The technical program will address all small engine topics related to specialty equipment, motorcycles, ATVs, lawn & garden equipment and recreational marine use.
