Bringing an International Education to the German International School Chicago

December 18, 2017

The German International School Chicago achieves International Baccalaureate World School status

The German International School Chicago (GISC) has today become the newest member of an ever-growing global community of more than 4,500 schools offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) in 147 countries worldwide.

The IB has a positive impact on students, schools, and their wider communities with learning going well beyond the classroom. Due to the concept-based nature of the IB, the students learn skills they are able to easily apply to any life situation. The IB’s unique and innovative approach to learning means both students and teachers are genuinely engaged with the programs and benefit from being a part of an unparalleled global network. Students are able to participate in international conferences and educators work with their peers internationally to ensure that the IB remains at the cutting edge of international education.

GISC’s Director Petra Obritzberger says:

"We wanted to offer our students a more holistic education which will instill in them the skills, knowledge, and outlook to succeed in the future, both in their local and global communities. We are delighted to become an IB World School and we look forward to building GISC further both figuratively by reaping the many benefits of the IB program and literally by moving to a bigger campus in early 2018! It’s definitely been very exciting times at GISC!"

Katharina Koch, IB Coordinator at GISC, says:

"The IB is recognized across the world for its innovative approach to education. We strongly believe that it is important to place an equal focus on academics and other, transferable skills, in order to best prepare students for success beyond school."

That the German International School Chicago has now successfully completed the authorization process marks an exciting time for GISC, and more importantly, for the students who will benefit from an IB education.
