Chicago Loves Austrian Wine

Winter is over; how better to enjoy a spring evening than with an Austrian wine like a GrüVe? Austrian wines are becoming more popular in the U.S. and more and more Americans are enjoying the fruits of Austria’s award winning wineries.

The Czech EU Presidency together with the nonprofit organization EuroChicago organized a “Euro Beer, Wine and Spirits Tasting”on April 29, 2009 at the classy and stylish Sofitel Chicago to promote European beverages. The Austrian Trade Commission in Chicago manned the Austrian table serving delicious Austrian whites (GrüVe, Riesling) and reds (Zweigelt, St. Laurent). European breads were presented by Michael Mikusch, craft baker from the Austrian Bakery in Chicago. Austrian wines were also prominently featured at this year’s “Meritage on The Magnificent Mile Food & Pairing” at the Fairmont Hotel. Austrian wine importer Wein-Bauer Inc. invited Austrian wine producers Karl Jurtschitsch, Hans Nittnaus and Christian Fischer to illustrate how Austrian wines pair with the food of some of Chicago’s leading restaurants.
