Colorful mix at the International Home and Housewares Show

March 9, 2016

Outlook on the latest trends in the industry in 2016

The International Home and Housewares Show was held March 5 - 8, 2016 at McCormick Place in Chicago. With more than 2,100 exhibitors from over 45 countries and more than 62,000 visitors from over 125 countries, the show is one of the most important housewares exhibitions in the world. Riedel – The Wine Glass Company and Miraplast, two Austrian companies, presented their products as well. Riedel is one of the regular exhibitors in Chicago and has been attending the fair for years. Miraplast is also not a newcomer to the show, having exhibited for the second time in row with its own booth.

Products were categorized into four types: “Dine & Decor,” “Discover & Design,” “Clean & Contain,” and “Wired & Well.” More than 900 exhibitors focused on the “Dine & Decor” category. The usability of the products was the main concern of most companies. Additionally, because of increased health consciousness, more companies introduced ecologically compatible products.  A wide variety of BPA-free bottles was of particular significance.

The category “Discover & Design” was dominated by eccentric forms and the colors rosé gold and silver. More than 200 of the world’s best design companies exhibited their products from all categories. Twelve housewares suppliers ranging from well-established brands to first-time exhibitors were honored as winners of the IHA Global Innovation Awards for product design today.

More than 200 companies presented products from the “Clean & Contain” category. The main focus of R&D was clearly the range of functionality. This trend was particularly evident in ultra-light suitcases and space-saving laundry racks. In addition, most of the items sported flashy colors.

Over 300 representatives impressed the show visitors with environmentally friendly products from the category “Wired & Well”. The main concerns of manufacturers were energy-saving and durable products.

The majority of customers and exhibitors were optimistic and very satisfied with the outcome of the show and are planning to be back next year. The next International Home and Housewares Show is scheduled for March 18 – 21, 2017, again at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center.
