Crowds drawn to FABTECH 2013 and Austrian manufacturing equipment

November 22, 2013

With its largest show in history, FABTECH provides a good snapshot of the current and future in manufacturing technology.

Companies currently see a unique opportunity to invest in capital equipment: interest rates are low and banks are flexible. A short downturn is predicted for the second half of 2014, giving firms the opportunity to install equipment and expand production capacity and train workers. After that, three years of growth are predicted from 2015 through 2017. This will be unequal to sectors. Sales of equipment to automotive and consumer goods are expected to decrease in 2014, and the prognosis in the energy, agriculture and aeronautics is particularly positive, with other sectors level.

Key trends noted at FABTECH 2013
· Competitive costs and high productivity have led to a US notable manufacturing renaissance
· Greater training of skilled labor is urgently needed, particularly of the “millennial” generation (born 1977-1997)
· Robotics and lasers are increasingly being used in manufacturing processes
· Quality control and improvement of production efficiencies, along with traceability are increasingly relevant
· Customer relationships are being strengthened through social media and the internet for greater profitability

Breaking previous records, FABTECH 2013 is North America´s most important exhibition for metal fabrication, welding and coating and was held November 18-21 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Attracting over 40,000 visitors to an excess of 1,500 exhibitors, Austrian technology was well-represented in many sectors. Austrian-related exhibitors included: ANDRITZ Soutec ,  ASMAG , Böhler Uddeholm Corp , voestalpine Böhler Welding USA Inc ., FORSTNER Maschinenbau GmbH , Fronius USA LLC , igm Robotic Systems Inc. , Linsinger Austria Maschinenbau GesmbH and Roll Forming Corp. .

FABTECH is cosponsored by the following US trade associations:
American Welding Society (AWS)
Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Intl. (FMA)
Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)
Precision Metalforming Association (PMA)
Chemical Coaters Association International (CCAI)

FABTECH 2014 will take place again at Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta on November 11-13, 2014.
