Dunkin’ Donuts is getting ready to enter the market

Dunkin’ Donuts announced recently that by the end of November their first shop will be set up in Vienna. The company, which is one of the world’s leading chains for coffee and baked goods, has signed a contract with M&D Restaurant Development GmbH with the intention to launch 25 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in Austria within the next 5 years.

“Austria has a rich and vibrant coffeehouse culture, so we are very excited to announce our entry into the country with Dunkin’ Donuts,” said Paul Twohig, President, Dunkin’ Donuts U.S. and Canada, and Dunkin’ Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Europe and Latin America. “Our new master franchisee, M&D Restaurant Development GmbH, has a leadership team with a strong background in the retail industry. We look forward to partnering with them as we develop the Dunkin’ Donuts brand across Austria in the years ahead.”

Initially the emphasis is on the local Vienna area, with 3 restaurants to be opened this year and three more in the first quarter of 2015. Planned locations are Mariahilfer Strasse, Meidlinger Hauptstrasse, Westbahnhof, and Favoriten.

Dunkin’ Donuts was founded in 1950 and operates nearly 11,000 restaurants in 33 countries worldwide. Europe is a target market with only approximately 120 shops to date. The company is also looking for franchisees in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, and the Netherlands.
