GREENBUILD 2018: Austrian Pavilion at North America’s Largest Greenbuilding Trade Show

November 21, 2018

Eight Austrian companies showcased the latest innovations at GREENBUILD 2018 in Chicago

The GREENBUILD International Conference and Expo is the world's largest conference and exposition dedicated to green building. GREENBUILD brings together industry leaders, experts and frontline professionals dedicated to sustainable building in their everyday work. Ideal and passion of the green building community come alive at GREENBUILD and it is the place to connect with key members of the industry.

The Austrian pavilion at GREENBUILD - the only international pavilion at this year's show - featured 8 companies from Austria as well as some of their US subsidiaries. These companies manufacture a range of products including fastening solutions, wood panels, composite panels, network control products for building automation, mounting connections, windows and heaters:

BECK Fastener Group

Binderholz GmbH
Design Composite GmbH
FunderMax GmbH
LOYTEC electronics GmbH
Silber Fensterbau GmbH
Spinnanker GmbH
Windhager Zentralheizung GmbH

VST Building Technologies and Fronius exhibited with an individual booth.

Every year the trade show takes place in another city, this year it took place at McCormick Place in Chicago from November 14th - 16th, 2018. More than 500 exhibitors were part of this remarkable event displaying a variety of product categories. GREENBUILD offered several product pavilions in the expo hall. With a large show floor, these pavilions made it easy to find specialty products within the trade show.

Many new trends have emerged in the green building business. For example, there is a strong demand for flexibility. Apartments can double as work spaces and offices are also expected to be event spaces. Another focus of attention is resilience in terms of risk mitigation and insurance costs in reaction to the most expensive years on record due to extreme climate events. Innovation also remains a big topic. For example, the need for “smart everything” is always kept in mind. As a result of this, possible core security and privacy challenges are being addressed. As the name of the trade show suggests, another important trend is – as in the past - energy efficiency and homes that support good health by providing, for example, excellent indoor air quality or tightened building envelopes to prevent dust.

The city of Chicago achieved LEED for Cities certification at the Platinum level, placing it among only a handful of cities worldwide that have demonstrated sustainability leadership on this scale to date, making it an apt setting for GREENBUILD. On a larger scale, the state of Illinois is one of only two states to make the “Top 10 States for LEED” annual list since these rankings were introduced in 2010.

If you are interested in seeing the newest trends in 2019, the next GREENBUILD will take place in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia World Congress Center on November 20th – 22nd, 2019. Email us at
