Greenbuild 2010: Austria goes green at the largest conference dedicated to sustainable building

November 24, 2010

12 Austrian companies take the stage at this year’s GREENBUILD 2010 in Chicago

In today’s economy, staying ahead of the learning curve is absolutely essential to growing your business. 12 Austrian companies took this saying to heart and attended a trade mission to Chicago which was organized by ABA-Invest in Austria, the US Commercial Service and the Embassy of Canada in Vienna as well as our office in Chicago. The main purpose of the trip for the 19 members of our delegation (some newcomers, some already familiar with the US market) was to get a look into current trends and developments in the US greenbuilding industry. The highlight of the fact-finding mission was a half-day conference that our office put together for all of the participants. The keynote speaker, Nabih Tahan, provided an update on the status quo of the greenbuilding industry in the US and presented an opportunity to exchange ideas between the members of the Austrian delegation and US experts. On the one hand European companies can learn a lot from US firms in the building and construction industries; on the other hand, Austrian companies have more than a decade’s experience in the environmental and sustainable fields. Hence, the delegation’s main goal was to assess about the potential marketability of their products, technologies and services in the US greenbuilding market. The continued rising demand for environmentally-friendly products in the US creates great opportunities for innovative Austrian companies.

Walking the show floor and talking to customers at our Austrian information booth, the Austrian company representatives had a lot of great conversations that will hopefully lead to many new business relationships with US firms. Attending the GREENBUILD 2010 was a must for Austrian companies in order to showcase not only their organizations, know-how and products, but also their sustainable achievements in this sector. The following Austrian companies were represented at this year’s GREENBUILD trade show in Chicago:

Austrotherm GmbH
CREE-The Natural Change in Urban Architecture
Donau-Universität Krems
Easy Living Innovations- und Projektentwicklungs GmbH
Getzner Werkstoffe GmbH
Gobli Bauengineering
Hella Sonnen- und Wetterschutztechnik GmbH
Knapp GmbH
Kub2 Ausstellungswände GmbH
OeAD – Oesterreichischer Austauschdienst GmbH
Tiger Drylac U.S.A Inc.

A major milestone in our office’s continued effort to introduce Austrian companies to the US greenbuilding counterparts is the first edition of the directory „Austrian Sustainable Construction Products & Technologies for North America“ [pdf, 1,535.3kb]. This publication is a short introduction to the participants at this year’s GREENBUILD as well as other Austrian companies that would like to get in contact with you. The companies introduced in this directory work in the field of energy-efficient building solutions, modern building materials such as cross laminated timber or systems for vibration isolation and roofing products, windows & doors, to name only a few.

If designing, building, living, and working in green buildings is important to businesses as well as individuals, GREENBUILD Chicago was the place to be between November 17 and 19, 2010. With 1,000 exhibitors and more than 30,000 people gathered in Chicago for USGBC’s GREENBUILD Expo 2010, this year’s conference drew a record number of attendees. Apart from all the exhibitors and their products and services, educational sessions with exciting speakers as well as special events and seminars, workshops and demonstrations were held at GREENBUILD 2010.

Toronto will be the host for next year’s Greenbuild International Conference and Expo which will be held from October 4 to 7, 2011. Stay tuned for details regarding our program for GREENBUILD 2011 and keep visiting our website .
