Increased number of attendees and visitors at WASTE EXPO 2010

May 11, 2010

Four Austrian Companies and the Austrian Trade Commission Chicago exhibited at Waste Expo in Atlanta

This year’s Waste Expo, the largest trade show in North America serving the solid waste and recycling market, was held in Atlanta from May 4 to 6. No figures are yet available for this year’s show in Atlanta, other than the number of exhibitors is estimated to have increased by 8% compared to 2009 trade show statistics. According to surveys, the primary reason why attendees come to the show is to see equipment and products. There was plenty to see in Atlanta this year due to the fact that (heavy) equipment manufacturers were once again displaying more products than in previous years.

Among the 527 exhibitors were UNTHA shredding technology America, Inc. and Komptech USA, Inc. as well as the Austrian Trade Commission in Chicago featuring two Austrian companies (Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH and MFL Maschinenfabrik Liezen und Gießerei GmbH ).

The two-and-a-half day show was characterized by good foot traffic throughout the event. The Austrian participants were very impressed by the number of quality leads – the overall mood was upbeat and positive; visitors and attendees alike echoed the industry’s comments on the signs of recovery. Some of the topics covered during the official conference program were among others green management, the future of recycling, finance, social media, etc. These presentations focused on current trends, issues and opportunities faced by both the private and public sectors. In addition, networking and being visible at the show are the biggest plusses exhibitors took away.

Due to rising concern about climate change, visitors to the expo were very open to innovative solutions for recycling and energy saving. The key words, applicable in every other industry, are: environmentally-friendly, efficient, and economical.
