Also boasts lowest youth unemployment rate

After 19 months of decreasing unemployment, the number of jobless persons – adjusted for participants in public training programs – increased slightly in Austria, i.e. to 3.9% in September 2011. Nevertheless, Austria continues to be the EU’s top performer in the area of employment. Austria now also boasts the lowest youth unemployment rate of 7.1%, surpassing the Netherlands (8%). This result confirms Austria’s ambitious youth labor market policy. The steady significant increase in the number of employed persons is also a very welcome fact – in October 2011 Austria had 3,450,000 employees.

The Austrian government is currently working on special programs to particularly support young people, jpeople looking to return to work after a career break due to childcare, and older women to find employment.
