Lam Research Opens New Research Laboratory in Villach

Company makes commitment to its Austrian operations

Lam Research Corporation , headquartered in Fremont, California (USA) and traded on the NASDAQ stock market in the USA, opened a new research laboratory in Villach, Austria. The 8,200 square foot facility doubles its laboratory capacity. LAM CEO Martin Anstice said the investment was a “clear commitment” to its Austrian operations. In 2008 Lam Research acquired the Villach-based company SEZ AG. Since then, it has created 100 new jobs. At present Lam Research employs a workforce of 550 people. Some 60 million USD will be invested in Carinthia over the next few years. Lam is the technology leader with a major market share in the field of plasma etching and single wafer clean systems. In Villach the company also operates a training workshop which is currently training 24 young people. Numerous partnerships have been concluded with research facilities and universities.
Approximately 3,650 people work for the Group across the globe. In the past financial year ending in June 2011, the company generated revenue of 3.2 billion USD. Europe, where Villach is the company’s only production site, accounts for revenue of 420 million USD.
