The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) and the Austrian Foreign Ministry open the new joint office “Open Austria” in San Francisco

July 13, 2016

Open Austria is the official One-Stop-Shop for Austrian Startups in Silicon Valley

The highly successful Go Silicon Valley Startup Initiative (in German only) bringing Austrian Startups to the West Coast started in 2009. The logical next step is to show presence in the Bay area in order to assist the booming Austrian Startup community and connect Austrian technology providers and innovators with their peers in California. The joint office of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) and the Foreign Ministry shall serve as a focal and contact point for Austrian creative minds. The goal of Open Austria is to support Austrian entrepreneurs, innovators and scientists who are already operating in the Valley or are planning to do so.

Austria is known for many great things around the world but few know that it is also a high-tech nation with extremely successful companies that are often market leaders in their respective fields. Besides connecting the Austrian business community in San Francisco and giving them a home base, it is also Open Austria’s mission to shed light on these “Hidden Champions” and the vast creative and innovative potential of Austria.

Vice President of the WKO, Jürgen Roth and the Foreign Minister, Sebastian Kurz officially launched the initiative in Vienna last week. Roth pointed out the importance of strengthening Austria’s activities in the area because of the many possibilities for Austrian Startups to catch up on new trends and learn from their international counterparts.
