March 16, 2011

Austrian delegation visit learns value of diversification and strategic location for “World’s Strongest Chain”

In the midst of one the worst financial crisis of a generation, Pewag Inc. held the grand opening of their new North American s headquarters and distribution center in 2009. In hindsight the opening proved to be one of the success factors that contributed to double digit revenue growth in 2010. The Austrian Consul General Thomas Schnöll, Franz Rössler and Margit Mills of the Austrian Trade Commission paid a visit to see firsthand the progress Pewag has made at their new location. Mike Uhrenbacher, President and CEO of Pewag North America welcomed the delegation that included a tour of the facility as well as insight of how Pewag has managed to be as strong as the chains it´s famous for.

Pewag has established itself as the "technological innovator" in the high quality chain business. Today, Pewag brand is well-known in for high-quality chain products around the world. In 2003, Pewag was the first manufacturer world-wide to offer a Grade 120 overhead lifting program - the "strongest chain in the world." In 1992, Pewag was the first in the world to offer Grade 100 chains and components suited for overhead lifting. The company opened its doors with a US subsidiary in 1975. As one of the oldest chain manufacturers in the world, Pewag was established in the town of Bruckl, Austria in 1730. Even then it had been around: records of Bruckl´s first forging plant go back to 1479, when Christopher Columbus was in his 20´s.

Pewag´s 55,000 sq. ft office and warehouse complex is strategically located in Bolingbrook, Illinois. The firm is located in Will County and the Austrian delegation also had the opportunity to meet with John Greuling, President and CEO of the Will County Center for Economic Development and Tom Garrow from the Garrow Company, who discussed the county´s strategic location, infrastructure and qualified workforce. Pewag also has a location in Rocklin, California (outside of Sacramento) to expedite service needed in the Western half of the United States and Canada.

What lies ahead for Pewag? The company´s marriage of Austrian quality and American mastery of getting product to the right place at the right time is certainly a continued formula for success.
