Small innovations make big changes in the value chain

The annual PROCESS Expo took place from October 8 – 11, 2019 at McCormick Place North in Chicago. An Austrian company, AAT-Freezing , was an exhibitor at the show and presented its innovative freezing systems, which are among the most advanced on the market. They offer unique fully automated shock freezing systems, cooling systems, short-term storage systems and tempering systems for food in boxes or cartons. With its innovative freezing system, AAT-Freezing was able to hold its own against big international competitors. Other exhibitors included big brands like JBT, Multivac, Inc., Reiser and many more specialists in the field of production, processes and packaging.

A wide range of different companies and technologies in the process and packaging industry was presented at the show. Latest trends included sustainable production and resource-friendly processes. Furthermore, the industry is focusing on sustainable and efficient value chains throughout the entire production and packaging process in order to be able to produce large quantities of food in a short time. An important issue in this context is the flexibility of production chains as well as automatic error detection and repair. Large systems are becoming faster, more precise and more efficient, which makes it possible to change out production of different products very quickly. Sustainability is slowly taking hold in the packaging industry and some companies even offer biodegradable products. Furthermore, a lot of new equipment for freezing, cooking and packing was presented at the exhibition. A good example was the combination of various technologies, such as a microwave and a convection oven enabling particularly fast cooking of food.
