Rhomberg Rail helps to build New York Subway

February 6, 2012

Austrian company brings special equipment and a lot of expertise to New York

Austrian Rhomberg, headquartered in Bregenz (Vorarlberg), is participating in the expansion of the New York Subway from Times Square to 34th Avenue. On behalf of the railway construction company “Railworks Transit” and in cooperation with its U.S. partner “Construction Polymers”, Rhomberg Rail will act as both a consultant and as a supplier of a newly developed mobile, self-propelled and rail bound finisher. Additionally, the company will deliver 200 lifting and alignment systems. The total contract value for the Austrians is about 700,000 USD.

In January 2012, a New York City Transit Authority team and the track construction company Rail Transit Works visited Vorarlberg to test the new systems locally. A team of experts, led by Stefan Knittel, Managing Director of the Sector “Rail" at Rhomberg, will be on site starting mid-March to accompany the expansion. Currently the equipment is on the way to the U.S. East Coast, where it will be used as of June 2012 – the official starting date for the subway expansion.
