Busatis wear protection technology an excellent example of Austrian technology in US

As a maker of high-performance cutting components, the Austrian firm Busatis GmbH shows typical attributes of the Austrian formula for success in the US market. These include the following:

Rooted in tradition, focused on future
Since 1888, Busatis has been serving the agriculture and forestry industries with cutting tools such as knives and bars. This tradition forms the basis for innovation, which for the past 30 years has been focused on coating technologies against abrasion, erosion, and impact stress for wear parts used in high-performance machinery.  It has a long tradition driving innovation for cutting components of agricultural machines through customer feedback and rigorous field testing.

Multi-faceted technical solutions
Busatis´ latest development, BusaDUR wear protection coating, embodies a combination of coating technology and sintered heat treatment which allows parts to be formed after the coating process. It takes a wide array of metallurgical and manufacturing engineering expertise to accomplish this cost-effectively. The results:  BusaDUR is six to eight times better than non-coated parts!

Invest in people and cooperation
In addition to having a highly-skilled workforce with low employee turnover, Busatis invests strongly in its future  through an award-winning apprentice program.  The company has been working closely with the University of Applied Sciences Dresden (Germany) to carry out comprehensive studies to better understand grinding and adjusting requirements regarding knives and shear bars.

Narrow niche, wide customer base
Busatis high wear resistance parts have a strong level of expertise behind them, but are applied in many industries, from agriculture (cutting components for combines, forage harvesters, and food mixers etc.) to forestry (wood machining parts) to bushings for the construction machine industry. This diverse base gives the firm a strength in changing economies. In addition, most customers (eg. Case New Holland and Krone) are international players and loyal to Busatis globally.

According to Mr. Stephen Peck of Busatis US subsidiary Busatis Inc. / Knifeguard Inc., “It´s great to work for a small US subsidiary of a relatively small Austrian company, and yet have everyone in the industry know about us. We´ve been established in the US since 1972 with a strong customer base throughout the US and Canada.  After 10 years of being awarded John Deere´s Partner Award, now we´re recognized with their ´Hall of Fame Award`.  For that we are proud."
