Siemens Austria subsidiary ETM manages New York’s subway system

November 22, 2013

Austrian software program controls both audio and visual systems

Infrastructure and industrial facilities all over the world are controlled and operated on the basis of Austrian software. The program Simatic WinCC Open Architecture developed by the Austrian software company ETM Professional Control controls New York’s subway system. The company also counts the nuclear research center CERN and Sydney (Harbour Bridge) as its customers. The core business area of ETM is the control and monitoring of large facilities, primarily in the infrastructure segment, such as airports, underground systems, tunnels and pipelines. ETM is a subsidiary of Siemens. Many software experts from abroad, also from China and Russia, are among the work force of close to 130 employees.

With the help of the Austrian software company, New York subway passengers receive information about train arrivals and departures by means of both audio and visual systems. All messages are displayed in real time and exchanged using the system-wide electronic communication network.
