“US-Biz Award” conferred to austriamicrosystems, FACC, Lenzing, Lixto, PIDSO and SOLID

Whilst the Oscars were being awarded in Hollywood, Austrian companies were honored for their performance in the USA

Mimmicking the spirit of the Film Oscar Award Ceremony on February 26th, The Austrian Trade Commission in Los Angeles presented for the second year in a row the „US-Biz Awards“, the Economy-Oscar for Austrian companies that were particularly successful in the USA. The ‘US-Biz Awards 2012’ were awarded for the categories ‘Start Up’, ‘Market Entry’, ‘Trendsetter’, ‘Innovation’, ‘Investment’ und ‘Spectacular Achievements ’.

And the winners are…

“US-Biz Award 2012”, category Start Up, goes to: Lixto Software GmbH
Lixto participated at the Go Silicon Valley-Technology-Initiative of theAustrian Trade Commission Los Angeles. After milestones like the nomination to Key Innovator in the US travel industry and the opening of a subsidiary in Silicon Valley, the world’s biggest Hotelchain Best Western adopted the Lixto Pricing System. The leading company of Pricing-solution and Lixto created a partnership.
Other nominated companies were: Insposo GmbH, NOUS Wissensmanagement GmbH, ToolsOnAir Broadcast Engineering GmbH

“US-Biz Award 2012”, category Market Entry, goes to: PIDSO Propagation Ideas & Solutions GmbH
In 2011 the Viennese antenna-specialist PIDSO started a cooperation with the leading drone manufacturers. In the world’s biggest market for unmanned flying vehicles (UAV) PIDSO was able to offer a new antenna design and develop portable antennas.

“US-Biz Award 2012”, category Trendsetter, goes to: S.O.L.I.D. Gesellschaft für Solarinstallation und Design GmbH
In 2007 the Styrian specialist for big thermal solar installations built a new solar cooling system for the first time in the USA in the Desert Outdoor Center. The world’s largest installation for solar cooling was then built by S.O.L.I.D. at the Desert Mountain High School in Phoenix. Other clients are Top-Universities like Harvard and M.I.T., a DANONE-dairy industry, Hyatt Hotels, Gatorade/Pepsico. In California S.O.L.I.D. was instrumental in getting subsidies for solar cooling approved.

“US-Biz Award 2012”, category Innovation, goes to: FACC AG
Composite specialist FACC AG was chosen by Boeing as a partner for the development and production of composite components for the engines, nacelles, wings and the fuselage of the Boeing 787. The Boeing 787 sets new standards with regard to the use of composites. Around half of the Dreamliner consists of this modern, light and fuel-saving material. USA are one of the most important markets for FACC.

“US-Biz Award 2012”, category Investment, goes to: austriamicrosystems AG
austriamicrosystems, the leading designer and manufacturer of high performance integrated circuits from Styria, bought Texas Chip manufacturer for Smartphones and Tablets TAOS (Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions Inc.) in 2011 for approx. 220 million Euro and entered the attractive market of consumer electronic.

“US-Biz Award 2012”, category Spectacular Achievments, goes to: Lenzing AG
Lenzing manufactured the synthetic lawn for the 1.2 billion US-Dollar und 100,000 spectator Cowboys-Stadium in Arlington/Texas, in which 2011 the world’s biggest sport event, the Super Bowl, took place. 800 million spectators watched the final game of the National Football League.

“Austrian companies distinguish themselves in the USA through their innovation and entrepreneurship. Many times they are market-leaders in technology niche-markets” says Rudolf Thaler, Austrian Trade Commissioner in Los Angeles. The United States are the biggest oversees-market for Austria, the third-biggest importer of Austrian products worldwide and an attractive investment location.
The awards for Austrian success-stories in the USA are meant to encourage other pioneering companies to enter the gigantic US-Market with its 307 million consumers.

„Even if there were no Austrian nominations to the Film-Oscars, Hollywood has every good reason to celebrate: Austrian companies increased their US exports in 2011 to a never-before-seen 30% and reached Oscar-levels“, so Thaler in conclusion.
